FAQ

  • We are just starting our Midcoast Maine (Greater Bath/Brunswick area) chapter. The first 100+ Women Who Care group was founded in 2006 in Michigan and there are now more than 650 groups around the world. There are currently groups in Androscoggin and Knox Counties in Maine and the Southern Maine chapter of WWC has been operating for 9 years and has donated more than to $600,000 to Southern Maine nonprofits.

  • We start with a 45 minute registration and social period and the meeting lasts one hour.

  • Of course! If she has not made the commitment to join the group she will not be eligible to vote, but she is welcome to come and see how it works.

  • 5:15-6:00 PM is registration, networking and socializing. Drinks will be available for purchase. Please arrive at least ten minutes before the meeting begins. At registration, members will receive a name tag and a ballot.

6:00-7:00PM meeting. Three nominations will be pulled from the bowl. The three nominating members will speak for five minutes and answer a few questions. Members will vote by ballot and one of the three organizations will be awarded our Impact Donation.

At our next meeting, a representative from the chosen organization will be invited to give an update on the use of the funds.

  • In order to be considered at a meeting, the organization must benefit Midcoast Maine communities. The organization must be a nonprofit entity recognized as a 501c3 for at least two years. No national or international nonprofits, programs or organizations will be considered unless they have a location in the Midcoast Maine area and agree to keep 100% of the donations local, as the purpose is for the contributions to stay 100% in the community.

  • No. Our meetings are a great way for you to learn more about some of the inspiring organizations providing services in the area. You may learn about a group you never heard of and go on to volunteer or support it in other ways. You may come just to socialize, meet other community-minded women and support our local organizations. Your quarterly contribution is the only requirement of membership.

  • First, thank you for the work you do! Any member in good standing, including staff, volunteers and board members of a nonprofit have the benefit of nominating any eligible organization. Since our primary goal is to support nonprofits, we know that you already see the local need and know first hand what services your organization provides.

  • Nonprofits who receive an Impact Donation can be nominated again after three years.

Nonprofits who have been presented but not selected may be nominated again.

If a nonprofit has been nominated and presented and not selected twice they must wait one year before being nominated again.

  • Fun fact: No one likes public speaking! If you nominate a nonprofit, you need to be able to tell us why. Remember that this is a friendly, receptive audience whose purpose in coming is to learn what services your favorite nonprofit provides. See our “presenting tips” page for suggestions.

  • A 501c3 is a nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax and eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.

  • Yes, your contribution is tax deductible if made payable to a 501(c)(3) organization. Checks are written directly to the local organization, NOT to 100+ Women Who Care. Please contact your tax advisor or visit the IRS Website for further information.

  • The goal of the 100+ Women Who Care organization is to bundle our donations and make a large donation on behalf of the whole group. We want to be able to support this endeavor and give $5,000+ dollars at a time to make a large impact in our community, with each member’s donation being part of the larger donation. In addition, if we have a matching grant they will only match the monies we collect and deliver to the nonprofits. We also need to be able to track your donations so that you get credit for the donation and remain eligible for submitting nonprofits and voting at meetings.

  • Grapvine is a nonprofit organization that collects and forwards donations to nonprofits.  There is a small fee for processing the credit card.

    • Go to our Grapevine page HERE If you are not already a Grapevine member, click “Join this group.”

    • Find the current donation cycle (top right of page). Under “How Much” select the amount you would like to donate.

    • Under “How Often?” you will have two options.  If you select quarterly, it will create a subscription which will automatically charge your card your selected donation fee after every meeting and you will never have to remember to bring a check or go online to donate.  If you choose the “One Time” option you will be donating just for the current meeting cycle and will need to go back to Grapevine after each meeting to make your donation.

  • While we hope you will be there, we understand that life sometimes gets in the way of our best intentions. To remain a member in good standing, you must still make your donation to the selected nonprofit. The day after the meeting, you can check our website or Facebook page and see which organization was selected. You can then donate by credit card through our Grapevine account send your check for $50 MADE OUT TO THE SELECTED NONPROFIT to Cindy Marsh, 53 Stagecoach Road, Woolwich, ME 04579. Checks need to be received within two weeks.

  • 100% of the money raised goes directly to the nonprofit selected. Our group is funded by the group founders. We have some wonderful sponsors for which we are very grateful. The American Legion generously provides space for our meeting. Bath Printing prints our materials for us. Our website was built and maintained by Vision Media and Web.

  • We will never sell or share your personal information. The nonprofits receiving your checks have agreed not to sell your information and not to use your information to solicit money from you in the future.

  • Thank you for asking! Our goal is to get money into the hands of local nonprofits. More members = more money. We would love you to help us spread the word. Tell your friends, co-workers, relatives, knitting group etc! Make it a quarterly girl’s night out!

You could check with your employer and see if they have a matching donation program at your place of work and ask if they would like to sponsor us!

We would love some sponsors to provide small donations to the two nonprofits that are not selected. A yearly commitment would provide each of our two nonprofits which presented but were not selected with a small donation. Checks would be made out directly to the nonprofits. For more information about sponsorship please email us!

We want our meetings to be fun. Donations of gift cards, items from local businesses, things we could use for door prizes and raffles would be great.

  • It's a family affair!

Erin Scott lives in Topsham with her husband and two daughters. She works at Woodside Elementary School Library. She volunteers as a Program Coordinator for the Woodside One Wheelers and a staff representative on the PTO. She was previously a board member of the Friends of the Topsham Library for 6 years.
